Four terrorists killed in shootout near Lahore blast site: CTD

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) claimed to have gunned down four alleged Tehreek-e-Taliban terrorists in an encounter near Sagian Bridge, hours after a truck blast ripped through the area late Monday.

According to the CTD, police were deployed at all entry and exit points of the Punjab capital to curb threats of more attacks looming after the Bund Road blast.

As police approached a vehicle for a search, armed men inside the vehicle opened fire, according to CTD officials.

Police effectively responded, and in retaliatory fire, four terrorists were killed, while three others managed to flee the scene in the dark of night, a CTD official said further.

CTD claimed to have recovered a huge quantity of arms and ammunition from the custody of the slain terrorists who are said to be affiliated with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

A CTD spokesperson said around six to seven terrorists were attempting to enter Lahore.

A heavy contingent of police was called in the area to launch search operations for apprehending the absconding accomplices of the slain terrorists.

At least one person was killed and 33 injured in an explosion at Sagian Bridge near the Bund Road area in what authorities say was a truck carrying fruits.

A body was found in the debris of a nearby house impacted by the explosion, rescue officials said. The deceased was identified as Amanat Ali, police said, adding that he is said to have been a resident of Kamoke.

The number of injured was confirmed by rescue sources.
