Highest Military Award Of US Armed Forces Given: For the first time the highest US military award has been given to any high ranking foreign military official in a simple and impressive ceremony held at Air headquarters.
Air Chief Marshal, Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force was given the United States Legion of Merit, the highest military award of US armed forces, awarded to any foreign military high official. The military award was given by Lt. Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigian, Commander U.S. Air Forces Central Command, on behalf of General David L. Goldfein, Chief of Staff US Air Force.
During the occasion, Chief of Staff US Air Force praised PAF Air Chief’s commitment in fight against terrorism and untiring advocacy for the advancement of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) capabilities that significantly contributed in bringing peace and stability in the region. He was of the view that Air Chief’s personal initiative proved critical to the successful conduct of war on terrorism around the world.
Pakistan’s Air chief has been conferred this award in recognition of his bravery, leadership, intelligence, vision, demonstration of resolve and unwavering dedication to the global war on terrorism. His extraordinary efforts to ensure regional as well as global peace and stability won him much appreciation. The award is also an acknowledgment of his personal efforts which greatly enhanced mutual cooperation and relations between the two air forces.
Lt. Gen. Jeffrey L. Harrigian, Commander U.S. Air Forces Central Command while meeting the Air Chief in his office discussed matters of mutual interest. During the meeting the Air Chief repeated his resolve to further enhance mutual cooperation between the two air forces.
This award seeks to further cement the relations between Pakistan and US. General Goldfein, while speaking to the participants through video link, remarked that the increase in operational facilities of Pakistan Air Force will prove to be significant in restoring peace in the region.
