IAEA Director General Is In Pakistan

IAEA Director General Is In Pakistan: Yukiya Amano, Director General of the IAEA International Atomic Energy Agency, has arrived Pakistan on Monday. He met Prime Minister Abbasi in a meeting where issues related to cooperation between Pakistan and IAEA were discussed. Prime Minister appreciated the positive role played by the IAEA in the promotion of peaceful use of nuclear technology and briefed the IAEA chief about Pakistan’s energy development plans. He said Pakistan looks forward to the Agency’s support in expanding nuclear power production.

Pakistan has deep collaboration with IAEA in areas of nuclear power, industrial application of nuclear techniques, non-destructive testing, food and agriculture, soil improvement, radiation induced mutation, radiation oncology and nuclear medicines, environmental protection and isotope hydrology, etc. Pakistan is the founding member of IAEA. This international agency is the center for cooperation in the nuclear field and works with its member states and multiple partners worldwide to promote the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

Official visit of the IAEA chief is considered important to national interest as many new vistas of cooperation between IAEA and Pakistan would be explored. During his tour, he will visit various civilian facilities and installations to see the steps made by the country in the application of nuclear technology in agriculture, health, industry, water resource management, environment protection and food safety.

Pakistan is ready to further strengthen its corporation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and contribute towards the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) worldwide. Officials told media sources.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of 3 day international conference on “PAEC-IAEA: International Conference on Advances in Radiation Oncology and Nuclear Medicine”, being organized at Nuclear Medicine Oncology and Radiotherapy Institute (NORI), Yukiya Amano said that almost 25 countries of South Africa, did not have any adequate equipment for the treatment, lacking any dedicated cancer center. The DG IAEA, also inaugurated Radiation Oncology Suite at NORI hospital. The conference is organized by Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission in collaboration with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
