IS claims death of two abducted Chinese personal in Balochistan: Amaq news agency which is linked to the IS has made the claim in an Arabic statement on the Telegram messaging app.
The China’s foreign ministry has said that it was “gravely concerned” the Chinese foreign ministry added that it was working to verify the information.
The abduction is said to have taken place in the city of Quetta where the pair are said to have been learning Urdu at a language centre when they were abducted.
The local media claims that armed men took the couple and a Chinese woman had just managed to escape.
After the kidnapping no militant group claimed responsibility for the kidnapping. Balochistan has seen a number of kidnappings of foreign nationals by Islamic militant groups or separatists.
China is been regarded as one of the major allies of Pakistan, currently China is investing heavily in infrastructure projects which include nuclear power plants, roads and dams.
As per China’s One Belt One Road initiative which will see the construction of an economic corridor, Pakistanis likely to see massively increased investment as ever closer links are forged between the countries. Balochistan is the heart of the proposed infrastructure investment.
A recent report from the Pentagon also predicts that China will expand its military reach and suggests that it could construct military bases in Pakistan.
