JIT members harassed son of PM says minister

JIT members harassed son of PM says minister: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders on Tuesday, 31st, May, 2017 have accused two members of the joint investigation team (JIT) who are probing the Panama Papers case of harassing Hussain Nawaz, son of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Mr Hussain had appeared before the team earlier in the day.

Minister of State for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb and Danyal Aziz while addressing a press conference at the Press Information Department, had raised objections over the attitude of the two members of the JIT. The members were namely Bilal Rasool of Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan and Amer Aziz of the State Bank of Pakistan.

The minister also raised objections and criticised the judiciary for going easy on Pakistan Tehreek I Insaaf’s (PTI) Imran Khan.

Furthermore Ms Aurangzeb made an allegation that the two members of the JIT were biased towards the Sharif family. She said that earlier the PML-N had made reservations on appointing these two individuals in the JIT.

Furthermore the minister accused the two JIT members of misbehaving with Tariq Shafi, who is a cousin of the prime minister, she said that they had told Mr Shafi not to appear before the JIT again. She also alleged that the officials had told Mr Shafi that Mr Shafi could face a jail term if he did not withdraw the affidavit which he had submitted in the Panama Papers case. She questioned that “How can JIT members tell anyone what to submit and what not?”

The minister said that the controversial dual of Mr Rasool and Mr Aziz should also publicly declare that their association or friendship with the opponents of the Sharif family will not affect their performance as members of the JIT.

JIT’s summons to Hussain Nawaz which were leaked on Social media were also mentioned by the minister. She said that it was upsetting that they had found their way on Social media.

She said that The Supreme Court should take notice of the leaking of JIT’s summon and their use as political tools.

Ms Marryam added that Hussain Nawaz was a non-resident Pakistani and was not obliged to abide by the directives of the JIT. However Hussain Nawaz appeared before the JIT because he respected the law.

Similarly PTI chief Imran Khan was severly criticised by Daniyal Aziz who called him a proclaimed offender. Mr Danyal added that it was strange that a ‘law breaker’ was roaming freely without any fear of the law.

He accused the Election Commission of Pakistan of being too lenient towards Mr Khan, saying that it was not taking action against the PTI chief for not appearing before it.

The information minister in reply to a question about the countrywide protests against electricity breakdowns, said that the prime minister had taken notice of the situation and issued directives in this regard.
