KU students defend varsity after Ansarul Shariah bust: The students of Karachi University have kicked off a campaign to protect the dignity of their institution in the face of suspicions looming over it following the arrest of Ansarul Shariah.
The students launched the campaign with the slogan “Proud to be a student of Karachi University” aimed at dispelling doubts about the varsity, after two of its students were revealed to be members of Ansarul Shariah – a group behind recent terror activities in Karachi, which was busted earlier this week.
Sources informed on Tuesday that details of KU students suspected of being involved in suspicious activities will be shared with intelligence agencies.
Police are searching for the suspected mastermind of the Eid-day attack on Khawaja Izharul Hassan, the opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly, which they suspect was masterminded by Sarosh Siddiqui.
Siddiqui, a student at KU’s physics department and a suspected Ansarul Shariah commander, escaped a police raid on his house in Karachi’s Kaneez Fatima Society on Monday.
One of the students, while expressing his views on a social networking site, said a person’s individual act should not be linked to the varsity or its pupils.
Another one said the activities of a few people should not tarnish the image of the educational institute.
Displeased with the situation, another undergrad went a step further and challenged the authorities to restore students’ unions, adding that they would safeguard the varsity on their own.
Others also expressed fears that if the propaganda against the varsity did not stop, then the doors of foreign universities would be closed for them.
Speaking to the media, KU vice-chancellor lamented efforts to defame the institution, alleging that an organised group is behind this conspiracy.
