Mardan University reopens: small arms found from hostel: Earlier today a cache of weapons was recovered from the Abdul Wali Khan University in Mardan earlier today.
Mardan Khan University’s student Mashal Khan was lynched by a mob on accusations of committing Blasphemy.
During the search operation conducted by the police on university premises Guns, pistols and knives were recovered.
Police had conducted a search operation at the university’s hostel early morning and had recovered guns, pistols and knives. At the time Drugs were also seized from the hostel.
After the lynching incident of Mashaal Khan took place, the university was closed down and hostels were vacated to avoid a further escalation of violence after the lynching incident. The university had remained closed for 40 days.
On Sunday, a gathering to observe Mashal’s chehlum was held in Swabi. Members of civil society along with leaders of political and religious parties were present at a gathering where they called for giving exemplary punishment to the killers of Mashal.
53 suspects have been arrested in relation to Mashal Khan murder case. These include the key suspect, Imran, who is suspected of having shot the student.
However, Police has been unable to arrest Arif Khan, who is a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) councillor. Mr Arif was seen warning a crowd not to name Mashal Khan’s murderer after the student’s lynching.
