MQM-Pakistan calls off protest against census results

MQM-Pakistan calls off protest against census results: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan called off on Thursday its protest against the results of the sixth population and housing census, which was scheduled to be held on September 16. The party cancelled the protest due to the security threat to the party leaders, informed sources, adding that the party leaders are concerned about security ever since the attack on Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan.

MQM-Pakistan leaders had announced that they will organise a rally, against the census results, which will start from Liaquatabad and culminate at Quaid-e-Azam’s Mausoleum on September 10.

However, after the attack on Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan, the party leaders decided to convert the rally into a protest, according to a source. The protest was scheduled to be held on September 16.

Later, the protest was called off altogether due to security issues.

On September 2, MQM-Pakistan leader Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan survived an assassination attempt in Bufferzone area after he was leaving a mosque after offering Eid-ul-Azha prayers.

A child, as well as one of Hassan’s security guards, succumbed to their wounds, Deputy Inspector General Police (DIGP)-West Zulfiqar Ali Larik said a few minutes after the attack.
