Nasir Ul Mulk Appointed As Caretaker Prime Minister

Nasir Ul Mulk Appointed As Caretaker Prime Minister: As the current government tenure is about to end, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Opposition leader Khursheed Shah announced today in a press conference Former chief justice Nasirul Mulk as the caretaker prime minister.

Belonging to Mingora, Justice Mulk has acquired a Bachelor’s degree in law (LLB) from Peshawar University. He later on went to United Kingdom for Master’s (LLM) at the Inner Temple in England, where he qualified as bar-in-law in 1976.

PM Abbasi said “We have come to this decision six weeks later, and we had to discuss the nominations with our parties as well,” he added. “The individual’s history is impeccable and contribution has been outstanding.”

Earlier Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) proposed names of former chief justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, State Bank former governor Dr Ishrat Hussain and former minister Abdul Razzaq Daud.

 PPP gave names of former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Zaka Ashraf and former foreign secretary Jalil Abbasi Jilani.

 The government’s side had proposed names of former secretary of Election Commission of Pakistan Ishtiak Ahmad Khan and former CJPs Jawad S Khawaja and Anwar Zaheer Jamali.

Both the government and the opposition remained reluctant to share any details, names of Maleeha Lodhi, Tassaduq Hussain Jillani and Dr Ishrat Hussain have been doing the rounds as candidates who may be elevated to the desired slot of the caretaker PM.

Former governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) Shamshad Akhtar, former federal minister Abdul Razak Dawood, former CJPs Nasirul Mulk and Mian Shakirullah Jan, former Supreme Court judge Nasir Aslam Zahid and former caretaker PM Mir Hazar Khan Khoso remained under view.

About Nasir ul Mulk

Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk, who has been appointed as Pakistan’s 7th caretaker Prime Minister, previously performed duties as the 22nd  Chief Justice of Pakistan. He remained in office from 6 July 2014 till 16 August 2015.

Prior to his appointment as Chief Justice, he also rendered services as the acting Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan, from 30 November to 6 July 2014.

Justice Mulk is one of the seven judges who signed a restraining order on Nov 3, 2007, restraining the government to impose Martial Law in Pakistan. Justice Mulk later joined the judiciary on Sept 20, 2008.
