Other cases not to be pursued by PTI till the end of Panamagate probe
Till the conclusion of Panama Papers case investigation by a joint investigation team (JIT) which was formed by the Supreme Court, Persuance of other important cases in the Supreme Court has been halted by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI).
PTI spokesman Fawad Chaudhry in an interview said “We have decided to stop following other important petitions, including the one related to the Asghar Khan case, a reference filed against the National Accountability Bureau chairman with the Supreme Judicial Council and a petition that the government is making the judiciary and the JIT controversial.”
Mr Chaudhry said that the PTI believed that the JIT would complete its investigation by 10th July 2017, and till that time PTI did not want to concentrate on any other judicial matter.
A deliberate campaign has been launched by the ruling PML-N in what is a “planned move” to malign the judiciary and the JIT to make them controversial said the spokesman.
The JIT which has been constituted by the Supreme Court has been probing the sons of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz on the charges of money-laundering and tax evasion in the light of the Panama Papers leaks.
A petition has been prepared by the PTI against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif which seeks investigations into the allegations regarding receiving money from the founder of Al Qaeda organisation Osama bin Laden for the election campaign of the PML-N during 1990s. however so far the petition has not been filed so far.
PTI had announced filing of a petition which was seeking implementation of the SC’s earlier verdict in the famous Asghar Khan case.
The court in its verdict, had called for an investigation by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on charges that the politicians, which included Nawaz Sharif, all had received money from the army generals in the 1990s in order to defeat the Pakistan Peoples Party which was headed by the Benazir Bhutto at that time.
Fawad Chaudhry further added that these two petitions had been drafted despite the lack of cooperation from FIA and the other institutions. He said that they were also having some difficulties drafting the petitions.
PTI had also filled a reference with the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) for the removal of NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry from the post The PTI, for refusing to reopen alleged money-laundering cases against Prime Minister Sharif.
