Pakistani envoys meet to brainstorm foreign policy matters: A three-day conference of selected Pakistani envoys got underway here on Tuesday for brainstorming on important foreign policy issues. The participants are discussing potential strengths of the country’s foreign policy and options available in view of the geo-political and regional situation.
The new US policy on Afghanistan war, the challenges arising as a result of the revised US approach towards the region, and the Kashmir dispute are taking centre stage at the meeting.
Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif addressed the opening session of the conference. He also sought recommendations from the envoys present at the meeting regarding the prevailing geo-political situation, sources close to the matter said.
According to the sources, Khawaja Asif emphasised Pakistan’s stance that there is no military solution to Afghan war. He also insisted on the need to highlight continuing human rights violations in Indian occupied Kashmir on all available international platforms.
Among those attending the conference are Pakistan’s envoys from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE and Belgium.
Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi is set to chair the concluding session of the moot.
