Pakistan’s Sachal Jazz Ensemble performs in UN General Assembly
The hall of the United Nations General Assembly echoed with the sound of classical Pakistani music when the Sachal Jazz Ensemble performed to mark the country’s 71st Independence Day.
According to United Nations Deputy Secretary General Amina Mohammed, the world body appreciated and acknowledged Pakistan’s efforts for peace.
Amina was present as the chief guest of the event in place of the UN secretary general who was busy with other commitments.
The concert titled ‘Music Beyond Borders’ was aimed at spreading the message of peace and harmony on the world stage.
Sachal Jazz Ensemble performed their music that has already gained international familiarity.
While talking to the media a day before the concert, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN Maleeha Lodhi said they organised a grand event as they wanted Pakistan’s independence to be celebrated in general assembly of the UN, which is also called the Parliament of the world.
She added that in today’s times when xenophobia, especially Islamophobia, is on a rise, it is important for the world to know what the Pakistani culture is like, Lodhi said. “We have to bridge the gaps and this can be done through music.”
