Parachinar twin blasts: OAS reaches to meet protesters
Chief of the Army Staff Javed Qamar Bajwa has reached Parachinar in order to meet the families of the twin blast victims and tribal elders.
The ISPR has said that, the army chief will also be briefed on peace and stability situation in the country.
On Thursday, 29th June 2017, tens of thousands of people protested in Parachinar to demand better security after last week’s twin bombings in a market which resulted in the death of 75 people.
A sit in protest had been started by the Citizens of Parachinar soon after the two bombs went off last week on Friday evening. The bomb went of as shoppers were out buying supplies in preparation for the breaking of the fast on one of the last days of the holy month of Ramazan.
Several days had passed since people of the area were protesting and demanding that COAS, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif or Interior Minister Chaudary Nisar should visit them and fulfill their demands.
The crowd, which had already been angry over what they see as the failure of authorities to ensure security, has become more enraged after the shooting dead of three protesters by police trying to keep order.
The authorities on the other hand have not confirmed whether the three protesters were killed, the authorities have only said that they were investigating.
Arshad Umerzai, a former provincial government minister said that “We are tired of picking up the dead bodies of our people.”
Umerzai demanded that in response to the violence this town has faced the prime minister and Army chief should visit Parachinar,.
Earlier Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had announced 1 million rupees ($10,000) compensation for the families of every victim of the blasts, and 500,000 rupees for the wounded, however the protesters on the other hand had dismissed that, saying that the victims of attacks in other places got more.
