Peshawar grid station stormed by supporters and PTI lawmaker: Pakistan Tehreek i Insaaf’s lawmaker hailing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa along with his supporters stormed three grid stations on Friday 26th, May, 2017 and forcibly resumed power supply to areas affected by extended and unannounced power outages.
However in the evening, An FIR was registered against the said lawmaker at Yakatoot police station. The FIA was registered against MPA Fazal Elahi for attacking and illegally occupying government property and interfering with the operations of the grid stations.
According to the official of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) Mr Elahi, from the PK-6 constituency of the provincial capital accompanied by dozens of his supporters, came to the Hazarkhawni, Kohat Road Industrial Estate and Taj Abad grid stations and had tinkered with the power distribution systems there.
Pesco staffers have said that “Mr Elahi and his supporters tried to operate the power supply and distribution system” he added that the Pesco staffers did not resist as it could have resulted in a loss of lives. Mr Elahi after operating the system to restore power supply to certain areas, left behind some of his supporters at a grid station and moved on to the next one. According to the official the MPA’s supporters were present at the grid station until the report had been filed.
According to the Pesco staff “They restored power supply to feeders to which electricity supply had been suspended by the Pesco staff.” The official added that no one could be allowed to take the law into their own hands.
