PTI’s Babar Awan questions gifts worth Rs6b from Shehbaz to Nawaz

The gifts of Rs6 billion from Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif came under question at Lahore High Court on Tuesday.

A hearing was held by Justice Shahid Karim over the disqualification case filed against Shehbaz by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Babar Awan on behalf of the party chief, Imran Khan. While making arguments against Shehbaz, Awan said the amount of Rs6 billion has not been mentioned anywhere in the statements that the ruling family has recorded for accountability.

Moreover, he alleged Shehbaz misused his power to aid his family-owned sugar mills and despite holding public office was running his own business. Speaking about the overall assets of the ruling family, Awan said they do not match the sources of income of the Sharif family stated to the Panama case Joint Investigation Team.

The case against Shehbaz was filed over violation of article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, which state the eligibility criteria for the qualification of the Parliament and reasons over which one should be disqualified.
