Qureshi’s nominations as NA opposition leader results in rifts within PTI
Rifts have started to appear in Pakistan Tehhreek e Insaaf after the nomination of Shah Mehmood Qureshi as the National Assembly opposition leader said sources.
The media has learnt that a PTI parliamentary committee on September 20 had decided that Khan will be the new opposition leader. Afterwards PTI had began contacting other political parties.
But, Khan’s name was nowhere on the Tuesday’s meeting between PTI and Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmakers and the things changed afterwards. It has been suggested in the reports that efforts are underway to bring Qureshi as the leader of the opposition.
The members of the PTI, opposed to Qureshi being the opposition leader, have demanded that a meeting of PTI parliamentary committee be called and those, who met the MQM, should be asked to explain as to why did they give the perception of nominating Qureshi, sources informed further.
They added that a large number of PTI members, including Jahangir Tareen, are opposed to Qureshi’s nomination.
