Shahid Afridi To Lead ICC World XI: Former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi will replace Eoin Morgan as captain of the ICC World XI squad for the Twenty20 International against West Indies at Lords.

While Sam Billings will be substituting England’s skipper Morgan, Surrey all-rounder Sam Curran and England fast bowler Tymal Mills have also been added to the World XI squad.

Shahid Afridi will light up the Lord’s stage one last time.

Afridi has represented his country in over 500 international matches and famously broke the record for the fastest ODI century in his maiden international innings as a 16-year-old.

Sam Billings, has 30 caps for England in ODIs and T20Is, and has just returned from a stint in the IPL playing for the Chennai Super Kings.

Mills is an out-and-out fast bowler, touted as the quickest in England. Chronic back injuries have meant he only plays T20 cricket, but he has starred in various domestic competitions around the world, and in 2017 fetched the highest auction price for an overseas fast bowler in IPL history.

Sam Curran, a left-arm quick and middle-order batsman, is one of the most highly-regarded prospects in the English game. He is the brother of Tom Curran, who made his England debut last summer and has since played for them in all three formats.

Sam Curran would make his international debut for the ICC World XI.

Earlier Pakistan cricketers, Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik, were named in a World XI that will play against West Indies at Lord’s next month in a match aimed to raise funds for the Caribbean islands badly damaged by hurricanes last year.

Lords holds happy memories for the Pakistan duo, who won the ICC World T20 final against Sri Lanka there in 2009.

ICC World XI squad: Shahid Afridi (C), Dinesh Karthik, Mitchell McClenaghan, Thisara Perera, Rashid Khan, Luke Ronchi, Shoaib Malik, Tamim Iqbal, Sandeep Lamichhane, Adil Rashid, Mohammed Shami, Sam Billings, Sam Curran, Tymal Mills.
