SHC overturns death sentence of convict in Wali Khan Babar murder case
The Sindh High Court’s Larkana bench on Wednesday overturned the death sentence awarded to convict Faisal alias ‘Faisal Mota’ in the murder case of Geo News reporter Wali Khan Babar.
Overturning Faisal Mota’s death sentence during a hearing today, the Sindh High Court directed that the case be referred to a lower court, where it will be heard afresh.
The case will now be heard afresh in an anti-terrorism court in Kandhkot, which, on March 1, 2014, had awarded death sentence to two suspects including the then absconding Faisal Mota, and life imprisonment to four accused.
Babar was gunned down in the Liaquatabad area of Karachi on January 13, 2011 when he was returning home from office.
Faisal Mota was arrested during a raid by the security forces at Nine-Zero, Karachi in 2015.
