Sindh govt unfreezes KMC bank accounts

The Sindh government on Thursday took back its decision to freeze Karachi Municipal Corporation’s (KMC) bank accounts, confirmed Minister Local Government Jam Khan Shoro.

According to reports, the provincial government froze KMC funds in reaction to mayor Karachi’s move to stop Badar Jamil Mandhro from taking charge as municipal commissioner.

Sources informed that on the direction of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, the provincial government has taken back Mandhro’s appointment.

Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar called the Sindh government’s move ‘an example of bad governance’.

Separately, MQM-Pakistan and the Akhtar have filed a petition in the Supreme Court to take back control of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from the Sindh government.

MQM-P has also pleaded the apex court, through a petition, to order Sindh government’s authorities to release Rs29.36 billion as the KMC’s share of the Octroi Zila Tax (OZT) along with mark-up.
