Some Key features of the 2017-18 budget: The total outlay nominated for the budget is Rs4.75 trillion. Tax revenue will be collect 4.33, 4.01 of which will be collected by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). Provincial share is to increase to Rs2,384bn compared to Rs2,121bn in 2016-17. The development expenditure for next year has been placed at Rs1.001tr , which is 40pc higher than the Rs715bn allocation last year. Conversely the defence budget has been set at Rs920.2bn . The minimum wage has been set at Rs15,000 .
According to the unveiled budget by summer 2018, nearly 10,000MW of electricity will be added to the national grid, which will result in the elimination of load shedding completely.
Furthermore the Benazir Income Support Programme will be allocated Rs121b for 5.5 million beneficiaries.
The targets set up the government for the budget is Increase real GDP growth to 6pc. Take investment to 17pc of GDP. Contain inflation below 6pc. Contain budget deficit to 4.1pc of GDP. To increase the tax to GDP ratio to 13.7pc. Enhance FBR revenues by 14pc, and increase federal expenditures by 11pc. Increase non-tax receipts by 7pc. The current expenditure is to be kept under tight control. Furthermore to maintain foreign exchange reserves at a level that can cover a minimum of 4 months of imports. Limit the net public debt to GDP ratio to below 60pc of GDP and to continue targeted social interventions.
