Alarming security situation at Karachi Central Jail highlighted by CTD report: Two months after the escape of two high value inmates, it has been revealed by a counter terrorism department (CTD) report that terrorist’s imprisoned at the Karachi Central Jail had access to the prison’s record room along with sensitive documents.

The report has revealed that prison officials were not allowed to sit in the ward which housed terrorists, further more the internal security of the jail had been termed “alarming” by the report submitted to an anti-terrorism court on Tuesday.

The removal of ten prison officials including the senior superintendent and deputy superintendent was recommended by the CTD.

The report states that the inmates which were confined in the wards 25 and 26 had subjected the prison officials to torture several times yet no action had been taken against the influential prisoners despite the complaints. It was also revealed that inmates were also not taken to their cells till late at night.

Furthermore it was revealed that there was a lack of standard operating procedures in terms of when the inmates were produced in the jail’s judicial complex.

In another shocking revelation, the CTD officials said that terrorists had complete access to the record room and sensitive documents. The inmates would get their production orders issued when they desired.

It was stated in the report that a convicted inmate had been responsible for issuing of production orders of the terrorists as a convict was made assistant to the prison clerk Yasir Ali.

It has been revealed that a convict had issued production orders for Ahmed.

It has been revealed that the prison had been locked up at 11pm in the night of the escape of two LeJ terrorists.

According to the CTD report the terrorists had been given full chance to escape the prison and had been reported missing while being produced before a court the next day.

The report further stated that Senior Superintendent Jail Ghulam Murtaza Sheikh and nine others have been found negligent in discharging their duties.
