Assemblies Dissolved: The Provincial assemblies of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) are dissolved as they have completed their five-year constitutional term.

Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani presided over the last session of the Sindh Assembly, which was addressed by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. CM Shah suggested the name of former provincial chief secretary Ghulam Ali Pasha and PPP leader Dr Qayyum Soomro for the slot of the caretaker provincial chief executive.

The opposition leader suggested the names of former Sindh home adviser Aftab Ahmed Sheikh, former federal minister Javed Jabbar and former provincial chief secretary Fazlur Rahman.

Before the assembly’s tenure came to an end, the chief minister and Leader of the Opposition in Sindh Assembly Khawaja Izharul Hassan met to decide on a name for the post of caretaker chief minister.

Dr. Sikandar Shoro, Shamim Mumtaz, Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani, Fayyaz Butt, Mukesh Kumar Chawala and Imdad Pitafi will vacate their offices today.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly also completed its term midnight following a notification by provincial law secretary later regarding its dissolution. However, the farewell session could not be held because of a lack of quorum.

The provincial law secretary later issued a notification regarding dissolution of the assembly. The assembly before reaching to completion of its tenure, passed the landmark legislation about the merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with KP in its last session.

The government is now insisting for nomination of an undisputed person for the top provincial office. The opposition, however, not prepared to withdraw the name of Manzoor Afridi.

Punjab And Balochistan Assemblies

The assemblies of Punjab and Balochistan provinces are set to complete their five-year term on May 31^st (Thursday).

The two sides will decide one name from Ashraf Jahangir Qazi and Allauddin Marri for the provincial caretaker chief minister, the sources added.
