Dar to appear before JIT
According to a private tv channel who reported on Sunday night that On Monday, 3rd July 2017, The joint investigation team (JIT) which is investigating the Panama Papers revelations has summoned the Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.
TV channels have further reported, that the minister has been directed to bring along all relevant documents before the six-member team. This will be the first appearance of Ishaq Dar in JIT.
Earlier the minister had been summoned however he did not appear due to his official duties.
Cousin of Prime Minister Tariq Shafi earlier in the day, had appeared before the joint investigation team for the second time and faced the queries of the investigators for around three hours.
Mr Shafi on Sunday, 2nd July 2017, In a brief media chat after his appearance before the JIT avoided comments on the attitude of the investigators toward him. However after his first appearance before the probe body he had came up with some serious allegations of intimidation and harassment on the part of the investigators who had wanted to get the answers of their choice.
However Tariq Shafi, had said that he had not presented any fresh documents to the JIT nor he had retracted from his earlier stance.
Mr Shafi added that “I will appear before the committee again, if they will summon me” but said that chances of his reappearing were bleak.
On the question concerning with the treatment of JIT towards him, Mr Shafi remained silent.
A large number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) workers had welcomed Tariq Shafi when he reached the JIT headquarters at the Federal Judicial Academy (FJA) the workers of the party showered him with rose petals and raised slogans in favor of Nawaz Sharif.
Abid Sher Ali the Minister for State was also present outside, Mr Ali later raised a tirade of accusations against political opponents saying that they were undermining democracy.
Questions regarding the first family’s Hudaibya Papers Mills and business transactions that took place back in 1990s will be asked by the JIT which is headed by FIA Additional Director General Wajid Zia.
