Hero’s welcome given to Sarfraz as national team returns home

Early on Tuesday, 20th June 2017, Pakistan’s cricket teams captain Sarfraz Ahmed was given a hero’s welcome by fans as he was welcomed home carrying the Champions Trophy.

Sarfraz upon his return home from England, was greeted by men, women and children who packed Karachi airport.

Chants of “Long live Sarfraz” could be heard as Sarfraz held up the trophy, a police band played patriotic songs nearby.

Sarfraz in a brief comment said “(We won) thanks to Allah and the prayers of the whole nation.”

On Sunday, 18th June 2017, Pakistan’s victory by 180 runs had sparked widespread celebrations in the country. Afterwards Sarfraz was showered with bouquets and given a traditional skull cap and an ‘ajrak’ shawl, which is usually presented as a mark of honour.

Government Senior local officials had also turned up to greet Sarfraz before he was whisked away under escort by police commandos along with team-mate Rumman Raees.

The residential block of Sarfraz in central Karachi had been adorned with colourful lights and Pakistan flags, while fans climbed on rooftops and balconies to watch him return home.

Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman landed at Peshawar Airport where hundreds of people welcomed him. While talking to media, Zaman said that this is the best Eid gift to Pakistnai nation.

On the other hand, Imad Wasim and Shadab Khan had reached Islamabad where government officials and fans welcomed them. While Hasan Ali had landed at the Lahore Airport where City Mayor and PCB officials welcomed him.
