Hussain Nawaz’s reservations regarding JIT members dismissed by SC: A three-member special bench of the Supreme Court on Monday 28th, May, 2017 has dismissed the reservations raised by Hussain Nawaz, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son. The application rejected was regarding two members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) which was formed to probe Panama Papers case as per the apex court’s instructions.
Via an application filed to the SC, Hussain had raised objections against two of the six members of the JIT: The two members were namely Bilal Rasool of the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and Amer Aziz of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
Through the application Hussain Nawaz had alleged that Rasool is a nephew of Mian Mohammad Azhar, whose family are ardent Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) supporters.
Furthermore Hussain had also objected to the inclusion of Aziz, who was also part of a National Accountability Bureau investigation which was carried out into the Hudabiya Paper Mills scam under former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf’s regime.
During Monday’s hearing, Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, who heads the three-judge bench, ordered the JIT to continue with its proceedings and operate within its jurisdiction.
The judge said that the two members of the JIT who have been ‘”targeted” by Hussain in his application are experts in white-collar crime.
The remarks made were “We will not change any members of the JIT, nor will we prevent someone from doing their work” he further added that the JIT members were selected by a special bench.
