Kenya-Pakistan Trade Ties Discussed

Kenya-Pakistan Trade Ties Discussed: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in his meeting with Kenyan foreign minister Monica Juma expressed satisfaction over the existing cordial relations between Pakistan and Kenya and stressed on enhancing and diversifying bilateral trade ties.

The Prime Minister stated contented views during a meeting with Foreign Minister of Kenya Ambassador Dr Monica Juma, who along with the High Commissioner of Kenya in Islamabad met Prime Minister at the PM House. The two sides discussed bilateral relations as well as international matters of mutual concern.

The Kenyan Foreign Minister was visiting Pakistan as Special Envoy of the President of Kenya to deliver an invitation to the Prime Minister to visit Kenya.

They both recalled the cordial meeting with the Kenyan President at the sidelines of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in the United Kingdom earlier this month.

Kenya – Pakistan Trade and Investment Conference

Among her other engagements, Foreign Minister Ambassador Dr Monica Juma will be attending the “Kenya – Pakistan Trade and Investment Conference” to be held in Karachi on May 2nd, 2018.

This trade conference will be attended by leading Kenyan businessmen and Chambers of Commerce & Industry from different parts of the world.

This Conference will address limited trade volume issue between Pakistan and Kenya with a focus on diversifying Pakistani exports to Kenya in order to improve the existing trade volume between the two countries.

Rice and tea were two main commodities which were traditionally being traded between the two countries but there were a host of many other Pakistani products which can not only be introduced in the Kenyan market but also many other African across Africa via Kenya. As Kenya is one of the largest country in East Africa, Pakistan can export pharmaceutical and surgical items, sport goods and farm machinery etc.

Monica Juma has stated that trade with Pakistan has dropped over the years and both the countries will now engage on getting the trade back on an upward trajectory.  Kenya seeks to improve trade with Pakistan as there is a huge potential to enhance bilateral trade between Kenya and Pakistan.
