Pakistan Is Hosting Asian Golf Tour Event: As international sports gradually returns to the country where security has improved, Pakistan will host its golf tournament with the Asian Tour after 11 years. Pakistan hosted Asian Tour event in 1989, which was won by Filipino star Frankie Minoza. The country´s only Asian Tour winner remains Taimur Hussain who won at an event in Myanmar. The last time an Asian Tour event was staged in Pakistan was in 2006 and 2007. Last year, the Asian Development Tour (ADT) sanctioned a tournament in the country for the first time. By joining the Asian Tour, the tournament will receive Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points and give local golfers an opportunity to play alongside some of the region’s leading players.

The Asian Tour is the principal men’s professional golf tour in Asia except for Japan. Official money events on the tour count for World Golf Ranking points. The Asian Tour is administered from offices in Singapore. In 1998 the Asian Tour became the sixth member of the International Federation of PGA Tours.

Asian Tour Chief Executive Officer, Josh Burack stated “Our talented members are excited to return to Pakistan”.

This time Asian tour is named after Pakistan´s Chief of Naval Staff Zafar Abbasi. While appreciating the return of Asian tour he said that this is great news for golf in Pakistan. We are thrilled to welcome the Asian Tour and its talented members to our beautiful country.

The Karachi Golf Club is the oldest golf course in the country and it is only fitting that we stage a third Asian Tour event at our course. It’s a huge development for KGC and for Pakistan golf as well. Regular Asian Tour events have been absent in the country since 2008, when a tournament was cancelled over security concerns. Karachi will again host a big sport event after hosting and successfully arranging Pakistan Cricket Super league (PSL) matches.
