Pakistan Post faces deficit over Rs. 20 billion due to corruption, ghost employees

The Pakistan Post is facing the  deficit of over Rs 20 billion during the last three years due to corruption and large number of ghost employees.

The documents tabled in National Assembly on Monday revealed that department has to face the deficit of Rs 20.418 billion during the last three years.

“The total income of department during the fiscal year of 2013-14 was Rs 9.126 billion while total expenditure during the same period was Rs 15.715 billion and deficit remained Rs 6.588 billion”, the document added.

Similarly, the department received total income of Rs 9.673 billion and expenditure of Rs 16.5 billion during the fiscal year 2014-15.

The total income of department during the fiscal year 2015-16 was Rs 10.231 billion and expenditures were Rs 17.720 billion. The documents added that profit was low and deficit increased during three years. All measures taken by the department to reduce the deficit have proved fruitless.

“Pakistan Post has decided to launch a courier service to face the growing business of courier services on experimental basis. Initially this service would be launched in Lahore”, document concluded.
