Pakistani Weightlifter Nooh Makes A Record As a Junior Weightlifter In The CommonWealth Games: Pakistan’s weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt managed to make a record at the Commonwealth Games 2018 by registering the highest weight lifted by a junior in the +105kg event while also bringing the country its second medal at the event. The 20 year old has been training vigorously to achieve that success, and is among the 7 weightlifters to represent the country at the Games.

Nooh won a bronze after he bettered his previous record of 389kg at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship that also took place in Gold Coast, Australia. Nooh missed out on silver by a difference of just five kilograms as the country’s fastest improving weightlifter aims to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. At the Games, he lifted a total of 395kg to make a junior record, edging past India’s Gurdeep Singh, but falling behind New Zealand’s David Liti, who lifted 403kg, and Lauititi Lui (400kg) for the top two spots.

This is just the second medal for Pakistan in the Games currently in progress, with Nooh’s fellow weightlifter Talha Talib also breaking a record in the 62kg event while settling at the bronze medal.

The youngsters have been working hard to achieve their goals since 2014 and out of a Pakistani group of 56 athletes; these two are the only ones to have delivered any medals so far. The Gujranwala based athlete did not avail his other chances however and came in to pressure. He got 173kg in snatch but failed there in the next two attempts, and lifted 222kg in clean & jerk again, missing the next two attempts.

Pakistan is currently on 26th position in the rankings table. Pakistan’s otherwise unsatisfactory campaign in the Commonwealth Games received a little boost when their young weightlifter Nooh Dastagir Butt won a bronze medal in the Australian resort city of Gold Coast.

The way things are going for Pakistan in Gold Coast we hope to see things turning up better further in games.
