Parliamentary body to probe harassment allegations not ‘credible’: Mazari
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday said the proposed parliamentary committee to probe into MNA Ayesha Gulalai’s harassment allegations against the PTI chief is not credible.
PTI chief whip in the assembly — Shireen Mazari — wrote a letter to NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, stating that a parliamentary committee that included PTI’s political opponents ‘has no credibility,’ because ”political opponents can’t be accusers, judge and jury.’
“…such a biased committee will become a tool for victimizing political opponents in the future also and will set a bad parliamentary precedent,” the letter said.
Mazari’s letter to the speaker assured him of the party’s commitment to a ‘credible, neutral inquiry,” and proposed that an independent ‘Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards Office’ be appointed, as is the case in the United Kingdom.
The PTI on Monday decided to support the formation of a parliamentary ethics committee following the allegations leveled against party chairman Imran Khan by Gulalai.
The meeting, presided over by Imran Khan, also decided to object to the inclusion of certain members in the committee, said sources.
