Traces of explosives, detonators found at Lahore truck blast site

Authorities probing Monday night’s truck blast claim to have made headway in the investigation.

At least one person was killed and 33 injured when a truck said to be carrying fruits exploded at Sagian Bridge near the Bund Road area.

Sources said the investigators believe around 80 kilogrammes of explosives were stored in the truck, which exploded owing to moisture in the air.

Investigators believe the truck was transporting the explosives somewhere else to be used in an act of terrorism.

The identity of the driver is not yet known as neither the licence plate of the truck nor its engine number has been located by the authorities.

Police also said that chemicals and detonators were recovered from the blast site.

Meanwhile, an FIR of the incident has been registered by the Counter Terrorism Department. The FIR includes sections of the Anti-Terrorism Act.

The incident has raised security concerns ahead of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s planned rally to Lahore from Islamabad via the GT Road tomorrow.
