PML-N MPA disqualified by ECP over fake degree
Raja Shaukat Aziz Bhatti has been disqualified today, 20th June 2017, by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for holding a fake degree.
Aziz Bhatti had been an MPA of the ruling party PML-N from Rawalpindi’s PP-04 constituency.
Furthermore multiple arrest warrants have also been issued against him since his election from the constituency in 2008. Mr Bhatti has also been facing proceedings since that year.
Application to the ECP was submitted by Major retired Iftikhar Kiani, the application had been seeking Bhatti’s disqualification and fresh by-elections in the constituency.
Sardar Raza the Chief Election Commissioner observed that the case was being heard since before he came to office.
He added that”This case has went on for so long… the respondent has changed his counsels multiple times and has questioned our jurisdiction.”
A five-member commission which was headed by Chief Election Commissioner Sardar Raza had announced the short order denotifying the MPA.
Barrister Latif Khosa who had appeared on behalf of the applicant said that the respondent had approached a high court, which refused to provide him relief by staying ECP from announcing its order.
Earlier, graduation degree of Aziz Bhatti was declared fake by the Election Commission, the election commission had ordered criminal proceedings against him. Bhatti was accused of submitting the degree of another person with the same name. However, he had challenged the ECP’s decision in superior courts.
