Pre-arrest interim bail given to Farooq Sattar by ATC in hate speech cases: Dr Farooq Sattar the chief of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has been granted bail today by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on around 30 cases relating to hate speech which was committed by MQM founder Altaf Hussain.
Dr Sattar, who had earlier resorted to obtaining protective bail from the high court soon after the Rangers had been tasked to arrest him, Dr Sattar appeared before the court on Saturday, 03rd, May, 2017, along with his lawyers in order to move bail applications.
He was granted bail by the ATC judge on surety bonds of 50,000 Rs per case.
Cases had been filed against the MQM-P chief after the party’s founder Altaf Hussain had been critical of the army and other state institutions in a speech. Cases had been filed in various police stations of Karachi.
Altaf Hussain had been critical of the armed forces in speeches given by the telephone. After Altaaf Hussain’s provocative speech some party workers had started chanting anti Pakistan slogans at Karachi Press club, the party had staged a hunger strike for recovery of its missing activists at the press club.
Following Hussains’ provocative statements, some workers also raised anti-Pakistan slogans outside the Karachi Press Club, where the party had staged a hunger strike for recovery of its ‘missing’ activists on Aug 22, 2016.
Furthermore after the speech, some suspects attacked the offices of private news channels and also rioted near the Fawwara Chowk, which caused the death of at least one person.
