Shahzaib HasanPSL spot-fixing scandal: PCB indicts, suspends Shahzaib Hasan

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) formally indicted and provisionally suspended the Karachi Kings’ batsman Shahzaib Hassan on Friday over charges of attempted spot fixing during the second edition of Pakistan Super League.

Hasan was given a Notice of Charge over violation of three PCB’s anti-corruption codes, namely 2.1.4, 2.4.4 and 2.4.5, during his presence before the Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) for the third time and was suspended with instructions to respond to the notice within 14 days.

Article 2.1.4 of PCB’s anti-corruption code states: “Directly or indirectly soliciting, inducing, enticing, instructing, persuading, encouraging or intentionally facilitating any Participant to breach any of the foregoing provisions of the Article 2.1.”

Article 2.4.4 states: “Failing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any approaches or invitations received by the Participant to engage in Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code.”

Article 2.4.5 reads: “Failing or refusing to disclose to the PCB Vigilance and Security Department (without unnecessary delay) full details of any incident, fact, or matter that comes to the attention of a Participant that may evidence Corrupt Conduct under this Anti-Corruption Code by another Participant, including (without limitation) approaches or invitations that have been received by another Participant to engage in conduct that would amount to a breach of this Anti-Corruption Code.”

It is pertinent to mention here that PCB has till now formally charged and suspended Sharjeel Khan, Khalid Latif, Muhammad Irfan and Shahzaib Hasan over alleged meeting with a bookie during PSL 2017 for fixing the league’s matches.
