Quetta, Car bomber kills 13 outside IGP office

On Friday, 23th June 2017, morning Quetta was rocked with a car bombing; thirteen people including seven policemen had been martyred when a car laden with explosives was blown by a suicide attacker in front of Balochistan police chief’s office.

The powerful bomb which weighed 75 to 95 kilogram, also injured 21 other people. The bomb also destroyed a police pickup truck and damaged other vehicles at Shuhada Chowk in Gulistan Road area.

The explosion could be heard all over the city and windows of the buildings in the vicinity had shattered due to the explosion. Pieces of glass, blood and human flesh had littered the site.

After the blast the area had been cordoned off, while rescuers had shifted the dead and wounded to Sandeman Hospital, Bolan Medical Complex and Combined Military Hospital. Security of the hospitals was also beefed up in fear of further terror strikes.

Conflicting claims from Daesh’s local affiliate as well as Taliban’s splinter Jamatul Ahrar were made for the attack, while Balochistan Government Spokesman Anwar ul Haq Kakar blamed the attack on India. He said the Indians were using terrorism as a weapon against Pakistan. He confirmed 11 casualties and 21 injured.

Dr Waseem baig spokesman for the hospital said that “As many as 13 bodies, seven of them of police officials, have been brought to Sandeman Hospital.

Mr Baig further added that 17 of the 21 injured brought to them had been discharged after providing first aid, while four were admitted at Trauma Centre.

After the attack, emergency was declared all state-run hospitals and vacations of doctors and paramedics cancelled.
