Girl ‘forcibly converted’ to Islam allowed to live with husband by SHC
On Friday, 23rd June 2017, a court allowed a girl who had been ‘forcibly converted’ from Hinduism to Islam to live with her husband.
A Hindu girl, who, as stated by her family, had been kidnapped, converted and married off to a Muslim man without her consent was asked to be produced by the police before the court.
The directive which was issued by the court because of an application submitted by Ravita’s father, Satram Das Meghwar, through Advocate Bhagwandas, had been in the opposition to her conversion and marriage.
According to girls father Meghwar his daughter, who was 16 years old, had been unlawfully married off to Syed Nawaz Ali Shah after being abducted from her village near Nagarparkar Town on 6th June 2017.
After the conversion her name had been changed to Gulnaz. On the same day she got hitched to 36-year-old Shah at the marriage registrar’s office in union council Gulzar Khalil in Samaro of Umerkot district. According to Meghwar his daughter was born on July 14, 2001.
