Raiwind Blast Aimed At Policemen Took 9 Lives Away, Leaving Several Injured: 70,000 supporters of Tablighi Jamaat were present at the annual congregation when the suicide bomber targeted the police with a powerful that was heard at a long distance, around 9pm on Wednesday.
As per media sources 9 people including 5 policemen were martyred and more than 35 people were injured as a result of suicide attack near Tablighi Jamaat Markaz in Raiwind. Locals and rescue teams reached the spot right after the blast and shifted the bodies to the Raiwind Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ), Sharif Medical Complex and Indus Hospital.
This attack was accepted by TTP Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan as a result of killing their “associates” in Punjab and they have threatened more attacks on police in future. SI Aslam and constables Tanveer, Saeed, Amir Afridi were among the martyrs. Raiwind ASP Zubair Nazir, Sundar SHO Asim and other policemen got injuries. Followers who were present remained safe due to the sacrifices of these policemen.
It was a suicide attack confirmed DIG (Operations) Dr Haider Ashraf and the police men were the main target. The attacks were the sequel of The Mall Road and Ferozepur Road .
All hospitals of the city were put on high alert following the blast, as Rangers and police conducted search operations in and around Raiwind. IGP Punjab instructed to increase search, sweep, combing and intelligence operations as well as testing the security at sensitive installations, educational institutes, places of worship and in the markets.
President Mamnoon Hussain, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz Sharif condemning the attack said that they would fight against terrorists and terroism with dedication and as religious obligation. And the sacrifices of these martyrs will not be wasted.
The bombing took place at a time when the police is finalizing security arrangements for the PSL matches in Lahore. It is also claimed in order to spoil the upcoming PSL semi final such activities have geared up in Lahore supported by India.
