Shane Warne Blamed Saleem Malik For Offering Him A Bribe: Australia spin legend Shane Warne alleged that former Pakistan captain Saleem Malik offered him a bribe to bowl badly in a September 1994 Test between the countries in Karachi.

Speaking to Indian news channel NDTV,  in connection with his recently published autobiography ‘No Spin’, Warne spoke about one of the earlier incidents of “attempted match-fixing” in cricket.

“Saleem Malik offered me $200,000, he said it will be in my room in half-an-hour if I bowl wide of the off-stump and the match was a draw. That’s the bottom line of what he asked,” Warne was quoted by the Indian news website as saying.

While the approach from then Pakistan captain Malik was known since 1995, Warne’s latest utterance on the issue revealed the amount that was at stake and the way in which the approach was made. Pakistan eventually won the match by one wicket, chasing 314.

Warne took his fourth five-wicket haul in the innings while Malik scored 42.

Whereas on the other side the CRICKET legends have heaped praise on Australia’s brave batting performance to save the first Test against Pakistan.

Australia had been up against the result since losing the toss on day one and seeing two Pakistani centuries as the home side hit 482 in the first innings.

The Aussies then started well but lost 10 for 60 to trail by 280 after their first dig.

It was a horror show which saw Shane Warne say “I think Australia’s batting at the moment is the worst I have seen it.”

He also called for Australia to rush back Steve Smith, David Warner and Cameron Bancroft when their ball-tampering suspensions are over.

But after Usman Khawaja’s heroic century and Tim Paine batting for the final 14 overs took, the legendary Australian leg-spinner was forced to eat his words, taking to Twitter to praise the side for the incredible last day fightback.

Shane Warne

@ShaneWarne:  Well done to the whole Aust team to hang on – showed a lot of guts and spirit ! Congrats to Usman on an outstanding performance !
