AIOU ready to launch non formal teaching programmes

AIOU ready to launch non formal teaching programmes: It has been announced by the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) that it is all set to launch new non-formal teaching programmes. The move has been made in order to provide quality education to the people through distance learning system.
These programmes of the university will comprise of post-graduate diploma along with certificate courses of non-formal teachers’ training.
According to an official the necessary funding for this programme will be provided by UNESCO.
UNESCO and AIOU have entered in a formal agreement of bilateral cooperation in order to upgrade non-formal teaching.
An official of the AIOU has said that the university will exploit all possible avenues to fight out illiteracy and promote teachers’ training, through open distance learning system.
According to the official the programme was put in place to introduce academically accredited teachers’ training courses in non-formal education. The official added that it will also provide academic-related support to stake-holders, who are working under non-formal system.
The official added that this project has also been shared with Ministry of Education and Professional Development and other stake-holders to achieve the desired goals. According to the official there was non availability of certified training courses for the teachers engaged in non-formal education.
The teacher said that through this initiative, the University will fill the gap by producing trained teachers as per the requirements of distance learning system.
He added that the AIOU has the dedicated department of distance, non-formal
and continuing education that has been given the task of producing
trained teachers through certified courses.
