FIA refuses to give conveniences to Hijazi: As soon as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) took Chairman SECP Zafar Hijazi into custody, political recommendations poured in to provide him some facilities but the top brass of investigation agency refused to ease Hijazi.

FIA arrested Zafar Hijazi on the charges of tempering the official record from outside the special court in federal capital after his bail application was rejected. When they brought him to FIA Center Iqbal Town, the telephones of the headquarters commenced to ring up continuously as the pressure was exerted on the top officials of FIA from different political corners to provide him facilities including air conditioner, sofa-cum-bed, UPS system, rechargeable fan and provision of home cooked food  to Chairman Stock and Security Commission (SECP).

But the top guns of FIA had denied to provide these facilities in custody and told the callers that Hijazi will be treated as a common man, sources told this scribe.

Brother of detained Chairman SECP, Iqbal Hijazi visited FIA Center soon after his arrest and told FIA officials that Hijazi had gone through kidney transplant and he is seriously ill.

On the other hand media also reported that FIA gave VVIP Protocol to Zafar Hijazi. Media also reported that Zafar Hijazi was shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) owing to his ailment for treatment.

FIA would investigate HIjazi during custody to inquire on whose directions did he alter the official record regarding Chaudhary Sugar Mill (Pvt) Ltd, owned by Sharif family in 2013.

FIA sources claimed that the investigation agency has taken evidence from his mobile phone, whatsapp record that some political figures and an officer deputed at PM’s Secretariat were in contact with him.

The investigation agency later found Hijazi guilty of tampering records of the companies owned by the Sharif family, and recommended registration of an FIR against him. Subsequently a criminal case was registered against the SECP head at FIA’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) in Islamabad, under Sections 466 and 471 of PPC read with 5(2)47, the Prevention of Corruption

Act. Under these sections, the accused may face a jail term of up to seven years.
