PR drivers submit their one week leave applications against non -acceptance of their demands: The All Pakistan Train Drivers Welfare Association has submitted their one week leave applications to their respective railway administrations as dead line of wheel jam strike announced by it against the government’s failure to accept their demands, is hitting the wall.

In line with new developments around 302 drivers belonging from Lahore and Rawalpindi stations have tendered their applications directly to their administration while the drivers hailing from eight big cities including Karachi, Peshawar, Faisalabad, Quetta and Multan have submitted their application to their respective administrations.

Talking to media, Central Secretary of Association Shams Tabrez Jatt stated that at this time there are 2,900 total drivers across the country adding that 122 out of 136 from Rawalpindi, 180 out of 282 from Lahore have submitted their one week leave application to Railway administration directly while 250 out of 270 from Karachi, 110 out of 107 of Kotri, 72 out of 107 from Quetta, 125 out of 250 from Faisalabad 220 out of 285 from Rohery, 104 out of 160 belonging from the adjoining areas of Peshawar, similarly 73 out of 100 from Malikwal and 60 out of 360 drivers belonging to the seven subdivisions adjoining to Multan have tabled their one week leave applications to their respective local railway administration.

He said that all applications would be sent to the Railway administration collectively on Saturday (today).

Shams Tabres stated that all train drivers across the country are on strike since last week for the approval of their demands.

He reiterated that there are no safety bars around the railway track but drivers are held responsible for any accident which is not acceptable.

To a question he said three drivers from Multan and one driver from Sukhar division were fired regarding the case.

Talking about their demands Shams Tabres stated that the government should give the pay scale of 14, 15, 16 to the drivers, deputy drivers and assistant drivers respectively, equal to guard grade 1,2,3 adding that mileage allowances should also be increased and facilities should be increased.

He added that defects in the safety system should be removed immediately and the drivers dispelled in the past should be restored to their duties.

He said that no practical steps have been taken to raise their pay scale, and to give insurance coverage against accidents.

PR drivers association warned that the PR administration would be responsible of any unpleasant situation if their demands are not complied to by the government.
