Panama Leaks case: hearing completed, verdict reserved

The five-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) led by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa has reserved its verdict on Panamagate scandal after the completion of its hearing on Thursday and will announce the detailed judgement at a later date.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) counsel Naeem Bukhari completed his arguments after which Awami Muslim League Chairman Sheikh Rasheed presented his arguments.

Bukhari asked as to how Hussain and Hassan Nawaz received funds for investment. “The Qatar investments look like profits from a bank.”

Sheikh Rahseed emphasised that the Sharif family tried as much as it could to avoid the case but the top court has disregarded the statement of National Accountability Bureau Chairman Fasih Bukhari.

Earlier, Attorney General Ashtar Ausaf Ali argued in the court that a conclusive verdict cannot be professed until the allegations hurled by the petitioners are not investigated and vindicated.

The bench remarked that the SCP is not a trial court that verify the submitted documents and that it may consider appointing independent investigators for probing the allegations according to the law.

Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said that the bench will review all angles of the case before announcing the verdict as they all “fear graves”. He added that no short order will be issued and a detailed verdict will be given at a later date.
